Catherine Louise (Rock) Smith was born on August 27, 1963, to Jim and Norma (Schiltz) Rock in Missouri Valley,  Iowa. She started school in Omaha and moved to Woodbine by the age of five. Cathy graduated from Woodbine High School in 1981. Cathy attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge and then transferred to a cosmetology school. She then worked at a beauty shop in Glenwood, Iowa. Cathy married Darryl Smith in 1988. The couple was blessed with two  daughters, Rachel in 1989 and Loren in 1994, Darryl was in the Army so the family traveled with the Army to Korea and Alabama. Cathy returned to Glenwood and again worked at a beauty shop. Cathy met Adam Vasquez and moved to Omaha, The couple married on September 23, 2001. Cathy was a para-educator for the  Omaha Public Schools for 13 years.

Cathy loved pasta, chocolate, candles, cooking and gardening. She loved her grandchildren, being with  people, shopping and being on the phone. She also loved to help people. Cathy’s nickname was Chatty Cathy.

Cathy died on Friday, August 21, 2020 as a result of an automobile accident at the age of 56 years, 11 months, and 25 days.

Cathy was preceded in death by her grandparents; and nephew, Joe Smith. She is survived by her two daughters, Rachel Smith and Malik Thomas and Loren Smith and Albert Finley II all of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Chase Smith, Albert Finley III, Ariyah Finley and Jamari Finley; parents, Jim and Norma Rock of Woodbine, Iowa; sister, Teresa and Rod Smith of Woodbine, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
