Donald LeRoy Shaw was born May 15, 1935, in Iowa Falls, Iowa to Frank and Hazel Shaw. Don moved with his family to Woodbine when he was two years old. He    graduated from Woodbine High School in 1953. From 1958 through 1960 he served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Korea. Upon his discharge, he went to work on the Illinois Central Railroad as a bridge and building foreman for the next 42 years, retiring in 1995. Looking forward to retirement, Don enjoyed gardening, family, friends, barbequing and of course golf. In 2004, Peni and Don opened Shaw’s Family Kitchen, where he enjoyed serving his friends and family around the community.

Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Woodbine, and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was also an active member of many other church and  community activities. Don spent many happy hours with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, hunting and fishing. He became an avid golfer, a sport which he enjoyed right up until the end.

Don died on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 85 years, six months and 24 days.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Dawn Michelle Akona; four sisters, Betty Boustead, Viola Siebels, Gloria Forker and Evelyn Alvis; and two brothers, Frances and Jimmy Shaw. Don is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peni Shaw of Woodbine; daughter, Deborah Hinman of Carroll, Iowa; son, Daniel Shaw of Evergreen, Colorado; eight grandchildren, Sarah Thompson of Denver, Colorado, Mallory Shaw of Whiting, Iowa, Danielle and Landon Hinman of Carroll, Iowa, Eli, Emma, Izabella and Eliot Shaw of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one great grandson, Quinn Green of  Whiting, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

DUE TO COVID, THE CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR DON WILL BE IN MAY OF 2021, AT SWAN LAKE IN CARROLL, IOWA. A DATE WILL BE DECIDED LATER.
