Donna Irene Wendt was born April 13, 1931, to Leo and Veronica (Wehr) White in Portsmouth, Iowa. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She grew up in the Portsmouth area and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in 1949. Donna married James S. Wendt on February 15, 1950. Five children were born to this union. Donna held many jobs in her lifetime. As a teenager she babysat and helped her mother and sister, Patricia, run the telephone company in Portsmouth. As an adult she worked as a nurse’s assistant at Jennie Edmondson Hospital in Council Bluffs, cooked at the Missouri Valley/Logan Country Club and her final job was as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell in Council Bluffs, where she retired from. Her most favorite job was being a mother and grandmother.

Donna was a lifelong member of the Catholic church. She was a member of the St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Portsmouth and then the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Missouri Valley. Her favorite hobby was flower gardening. She also enjoyed painting the wooden projects that Jim would make. Donna and Jim enjoyed camping and meeting and making new friends along the way. She played a jamming piano by ear in her younger years. The kids loved to sit on the piano bench next to Donna to watch her play and sing along with her.
