Ervin Elmer Poore was born on December 5, 1947, to Ervin and Eileen (Shiver) Poore near Logan, Iowa. He was raised on a farm southeast of Logan. Erv graduated from Logan High School in 1966. He then enlisted in the US Navy and served in Vietnam from July 1968 to February 1970. Erv married Judy Schmit in Blair, Nebraska on August 22, 1970, and to this union four sons were born: Jeremy Joseph, Jarrod Ervin, Joseph Taylor and Jonathan Patrick. The couple made their home for a short time in Omaha, then moved back to Harrison County and farmed for three years near Logan and three years near Woodbine. Erv then drove truck for various companies for 20 years, retiring in 1995 due to health problems. He also worked for the Woodbine schools, sold insurance and was a substitute mail carrier. Erv retired from the post office in 2010. After retirement, Erv enjoyed helping Denny Topf with his farming operation.
Erv was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus Council 1249, where he was a 4th Degree Knight. He loved deer hunting with his sons. Erv and Judy enjoyed camping and traveling as well as several winters in Texas. Erv especially enjoyed family dinners.
Erv died on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 73 years, four months and 22 days.
Erv was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Judy on March 21, 2020; parents-in-law, Aloysius and Betty Schmidt; and special friends, Linus and Lucille Koch. He is survived by four sons, Jeremy and wife Angel of Avoca Iowa, Jarrod and wife Joanie of Underwood, Iowa, Joseph and wife Emily of Council Bluffs Iowa and Jonathan and wife Heather of Avoca; grandchildren, Jonni, Jillian, Kate, Harrison, Zane, Jaiden, Brayden and Eli; sister, Sharon and her husband Larry Wilwerding of Omaha, Nebraska; three brothers, Jim Poore and his wife Liz, Paul Poore and Bert Poore all of Logan, Iowa; many nephews and nieces; and other relatives and friends.
