Frances Irene Churchill was born on February 8, 1930, in Woodbine, Iowa, to Frank and Bernice (Boustead) McCann. She was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woodbine. Irene graduated from Woodbine High School in 1947. After high school, Irene took summer classes at Omaha University and was then able to teach country school for three years. On October 8, 1949, Irene married Paul Walter Churchill in the yard of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Four children were born to this union: Kent, Karen, Konda and Kimberly. The couple raised their family and farmed in the Harris Grove area for three years, then returned to Woodbine area to farm. After their retirement in 1989, the couple moved into town.
Irene was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Alter Society, Harrison County Homemakers (HHH), the Red Hat Society and the Pinochle Card Club. Irene cherished volunteering her time and serving on the board at the White Floral Gardens in Woodbine. She also was a care review advocate at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine. Irene also enjoyed volunteering at the Harrison County Historical Society and at the Harrison County Museum and Welcome Center. She loved flowers, quilting, embroidery and most of all, her grandchildren.
Irene died on June 9, 2021, at Azria Health Rose Vista in Woodbine, attaining the age of 91 years, four months and one day.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Churchill in 2017; daughter, Kimberly D. Churchill in 1977; brothers, Robert and Frank McCann; and sister, Patricia Parker. Irene is survived by three children, Kent (Pam) Churchill of Red Oak, Iowa, Karen (Ed) Meiers of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Konda (Rick) Owens of Omaha, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lu McCann of Post Falls, Idaho, Juanita Churchill of Woodbine and Vera Hummel of Wayne, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial donations may be made to the Woodbine Fire and Rescue Department or the White Floral Gardens.
