Marvin Lawrence Huebner was born on January 5, 1945, to Robert ‘Bud’ and Catherine (Ohlinger) Huebner in Harlan, Iowa. He graduated from Tri-Center in 1964. After high school, Marvin joined the Iowa Army National Guard, where he traveled throughout the United States. Marvin married Deanna Meier on January 21, 1967, at St. Mary’s in Portsmouth, and to this union three children were born. The couple rented a farmhouse near Portsmouth for two years and then purchased their home in Persia where they have lived for 52 years. Marvin worked at Western Iowa Pork in high school and after his time in the service. He later worked for the Harlan REC. After his dad got sick, Marvin went into farming.

Marvin was an early riser and started each day with a big breakfast. He always wore his sweatshirts with the sleeves pulled up to his elbows and never left the house without his farmers hat. Marvin had a joyous laugh and the gift of gab, a true BSer; he could strike up a conversation with anyone and could get their life story while standing in the grocery line. Marvin had a passion for farming and cattle and when he was not working on the farm he enjoyed working alongside his boys with their mowing and cabinet businesses. He also thoroughly enjoyed the mowing business with Deanna and spending many hours side by side mowing. He loved keeping things clean and tidy and he took great pride in his home and yard. Marvin was also an Elvis fan; he not only looked like Elvis with his coal black hair, but he had his moves too. He had a love for rare steak dipped in butter, roast beef, popcorn (on the stove) and ice-cream. Marvin loved his grandchildren and supporting them in their activities. He would spend hours with them playing games, cards, or arm-wrestling; they always had to keep a close eye on him though so he wouldn’t cheat his way to a win. Marvin always ended his day sitting on the patio with his shirt half unbuttoned, belly sticking out and a cold beer in his hand.

On March 7th, 2017 Marvin fell ill leaving him disabled. Throughout his three-and-a-half-year struggle he always remained positive and upbeat and rarely let his illness get him down, he loved every extra minute he was allowed to have on this earth. Marvin died at home surrounded by his family on August 18, 2020, at the age of 75 years, seven months, and 13 days.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Clarice Lengemann, LaVonne ‘Bonnie’ Turner, Karen Carlson and Wayne Huebner. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Deanna Huebner; children, Darcey and husband Kelly Mumm of Neola, Iowa, Scott Huebner and wife Gina of Minden, Iowa and Robbie Huebner and wife Traci of Persia; six grandchildren, Michelle Mumm, Brandon Huebner, Marcus Mumm, Brady Huebner, Trenton Huebner and Ainsley Huebner; siblings, Merle Huebner and wife Alice of Ankeny, Iowa and Roberta ‘Berti’ Peth of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank everyone who supported Marvin and the family throughout his long battle and continue to do so now.  We are deeply touched by your kindness and generosity.  God Bless
