Mary Jean Killpack was born on October 9, 1921, to Carl and Neta (Smith) Holeton in Logan, Iowa. She graduated from Logan High School. Mary Jean was united in marriage to Frederick Killpack on June 12, 1940, at the RLDS Church in Logan. Mary Jean and Frederick operated a restaurant in Woodbine and she worked at the creamery in Logan. In 1965, the couple moved to Cameron, Missouri. While raising their children, Mary Jean had a few jobs outside of the house, including working at a candy factory and a jail. In 1978, they moved back to Iowa and she worked as a cook at Rose Vista.

Mary Jean was a member of the Community of Christ. She had a type A personality and was always busy. Mary Jean enjoyed crafts and crocheting and used that talent to make not only towels and potholders but many crocheted personalized wedding gifts. The couple spent a lot of time in their garden and canned produce from it. Mary Jean liked to make candies and relish trays to pass on and never forgot to send a card for birthdays. She also loved playing cards. Mary Jean cherished her stuffed animal bears and angel collection, many of which she made.

Mary Jean died on July 5, 2020, at Rose Vista Nursing home, at the age of 98 years, eight months and 26 days.

Mary Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred Killpack on April 12, 2001; two daughters, Marsha Rand and Linda Sherer; twin children, Jeffrey Lynn and Jeanette Marie; and sisters, Sally Woods, Maxine Leonard and Dorothy Myer. She is survived by her son Carl Killpack and wife Nancy of San Diego, California; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
