Michael Dean Olmstead was born on December 9, 1944, in Dunlap, Iowa to Alva and Eleanor (Bauer) Olmstead. He attended school in Dunlap, graduating with the class of 1963. Mick worked around the Dunlap area and then went to Sioux City, Iowa to barber school. He returned to Dunlap where he spent his life as a barber. He truly loved his job. On November 8, 1969, Mick was married to Mary Pat Mulligan at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dunlap.

Mick was devoted to serving the city of Dunlap. He was a member of the fire department for over 50 years and also sat on the city council. He was a long-time member of the St. John Lutheran Church. He loved to work. He especially liked working out in the yard and in the garden. Mick enjoyed grocery shopping and finding a good bargain. He enjoyed watching the show ‘COPS’. Most of all, Mick enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his “Lump of Gold”.

Mick died on Monday, March 21, 2022, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 77 years, three months and 12 days.

Mick was preceded in death by his parents; son, Martin Patrick Olmstead; brothers, Earl Olmstead, Richard Olmstead, Larry Olmstead and LaVerne Olmstead; and sisters, Maxine Olmstead and Esther Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Pat Olmstead of Dunlap; son, Mike Olmstead and his wife Robin of Omaha, Nebraska; granddaughter, Lexi Olmstead of Omaha; sister, Diane Olmstead of Garland, Texas; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
