Peggy Maureen (Points) Mefferd was born on November 6, 1940, in Crescent, Iowa to Joseph and Inez (Daughtery) Points. Her first 18 years of life consisted of moving a lot. She attended 13 different schools both country and town schools. The last half of her senior year she attended Woodbine High School and graduated in 1959. The day after graduation, Peggy was hired as a typist for Dial Finance Company in Omaha, Nebraska. In August of 1959, Peggy married Wayne “Peachy” Mefferd and put down roots in Woodbine. The family lived in Woodbine for 31 years, before moving to Missouri Valley. To this union three boys were born Patrick Wayne, Michael Roy, and Joseph Dominic.

Family was always Peggy’s main priority and when asked where she worked, her answer without an apology was, “My career is taking care of my family as a wife and mother and the various hats that required.” However, it was a career she embraced selfishly for the joy it gave her.

During the years of raising her family, Peggy did volunteer work, part-time jobs, including parish and regional secretary for her church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She also did light housekeeping for Father Bob Schoemann and Father Adam Reisz. It was important to Peggy that these jobs could be done while the boys were at school. When the boys returned home, Peggy felt it was important for a mother to be there for them.

After the family was grown, Peggy began her second career in Civil Service. First working at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska and later at the US Army Corps of Engineers in Omaha, Nebraska. Peggy retired from the Corps of Engineers in 2001 as a Contract Specialist in the Contracting Division. After retirement, she helped her sister, Sharron, take care of their mother until her passing in 2006. In 2010, Sharron and Peggy moved to Alabama to spend time with another sister, Joan. After four years in Alabama, Peggy grew homesick for her immediate family and returned to Woodbine to be near them.

Peggy enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, dancing, vacations, nature, mushroom hunting and reading, especially the Bible.

Peggy died on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at CHI Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 10 months, and 23 days.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Joseph Chevalier; son, Joe Mefferd; brother, Donald Points and sister-in-law, Judy Points. She is survived by her two sons, Patrick Mefferd of Blair, Nebraska and Michael Mefferd of Joplin, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Shirley (Robinson) Mefferd of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Amber (Josh) Loger of Odebolt, Iowa and Shawn Mefferd of Missouri Valley, Iowa; four great grandchildren, Jordyn, Devon, Adriana and Jayce; four sisters, Joan Breth of Dothan, Alabama, Sharron Innes of Junction City, Oregon, Vickie (Tim) Jordan and Toni (Mike) White all of Nevada, Missouri; one brother, Raymond (Doris) Points of Mesquite, Nevada and many other relatives and friends.
