Ronald Louis Greenwood was born on January 23, 1936, in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Louis and Hazel (Wallingford) Greenwood. He moved to Wisner, Nebraska at the age of two, where he grew up on his family farm. He attended country school and graduated from Wisner High School. At the age of 18, he volunteered for the United States Army. After basic training, he was stationed at Elmendorf Base in Anchorage, Alaska. He served two years and came back in 1957 to attend Wayne State Teachers College for one year. On June 23, 1957, Ron was united in marriage to Sharon Goshorn at the United Methodist Church in Persia, Iowa. He enrolled at the University of Nebraska and they moved to Lincoln. In the spring of 1958, they decided to move back to Iowa and start farming. Ron farmed in the Neola and Honey Creek area until they moved to Logan in 1963. He farmed, fed cattle and farrowed pigs with E. J. Myer and purchased the Logan Produce Feed Store which he operated until retiring in 2003.

Ron was a 4-H Leader, Director of Harrison County Hog Producers, a member of Iowa Cattlemen’s Association and Logan Kiwanis and served on the Harrison County Extension Council. He was a member of the Logan United Methodist Church and served on the church council in various positions as well as teaching Junior High and High School Sunday school classes. One of his greatest joys was to go to the farm pond and sit quietly to watch for deer, turkeys and listen to the birds singing or the frogs croaking. He would go home and say “That’s where I feel the closest to God.” He loved the land and was a believer that you were the caretaker. Conservation of the land was important to him. Ron and Sharon loved to travel and they made 17 trips outside of the United States. He loved his children and grandchildren and was very proud of them. He enjoyed attending anything they participated in, especially their music and sports.

Ronald departed this life on April, 27, 2022, at the Westmont Care Center in Logan having attained the age of 86 years, three months and four days.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Louise Metcalf and Laura Kurka. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Greenwood of Logan, Iowa; two children, Michelle (Joseph) McCarthy of Missouri Valley, Iowa and Mike (Cheryl) Greenwood of Logan, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
